Toby Tiger: How We Slow Fashion

At Toby Tiger, we are committed to sustainability and slow fashion. We strive to create seasonless collections designed to last longer and be worn whenever. In addition, our limited edition ranges feature designs that use the same colour palette, allowing each item to interlink and be worn together. We are proud to stand against fast fashion and promote slow fashion instead. In this blog post, we'll explain how Toby Tiger is making a stand against the cycle of throwaway fashion.

What is Slow Fashion?

Slow fashion is an approach to fashion that focuses on sustainability and ethical production. Unlike fast fashion, which emphasizes quick turnaround, low cost, and high volumes, slow fashion encourages the purchase of preloved, organic, sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly garments. Slow fashion companies design limited-edition collections with a focus on quality and durability. As a result, their garments are designed to last longer and be worn season after season. This helps reduce the impact of fashion on the environment, people, and animals while creating beautiful and timeless styles that you can love for many years to come.

The Negative Impacts of Fast Fashion

Fast fashion has had devastating impacts on the environment. The rapid production of mass-produced clothes at low prices has forced garment makers to find ways to cut corners, often resulting in environmental damage. Toxic textile dyes are used to quickly dye garments in large quantities, polluting clean water and harming ecosystems. Additionally, fast fashion clothing is typically made from materials that are not organic or eco-friendly, leading to further damage to the planet.
In contrast, sustainable fashion practices such as slow fashion focus on preloved clothing, organic fabrics, and limited edition designs. By avoiding mass production, designers and manufacturers can reduce their environmental impact. In addition, slow fashion encourages quality over quantity, with garments designed to last longer and be worn for multiple seasons. This helps protect the environment from pollution associated with fast fashion production and disposal.

Toby Tiger's Design Process

At Toby Tiger, we pride ourselves on our creative and unique designs. Our design process considers children's comfort while creating styles they will love to wear. We make sure to use wide turn-up cuffs, poppers for easy changing, adjustable straps and waistbands, and fun, bold patterns with glow-in-the-dark prints. All materials used are super soft organic cotton and planet-friendly AZO-free dyes. Not only is the clothing comfortable and fun, but we also create interactive styles with lift-the-flap or unique Toby Tiger designs. Our materials are 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and environmentally friendly AZO-free dyes, so you can feel good about what your child is wearing. To top it off, all the clothing is machine washable at 30 degrees, making it convenient for busy parents. In addition, we design limited edition ranges with designs using the same palette so that every item interlinks and can be worn together. This way, kids can be stylish and comfortable at the same time!

The Benefits of Slow Fashion

Slow fashion is about staying true to your values and ensuring you're doing what's suitable for the environment, people and animals. It's about being responsible for our choices and the impact it has on our planet. Slow fashion is produced in safe and clean environments, with people treated fairly and paid a living wage for their work. It also has a seal of approval – 100% GOTS Certified organic cotton is used in slow-fashion clothing, meaning no animal by-products are used, and GOTS supports the Sustainable Development Goals. Moreover, the clothing produced through slow fashion is a limited edition, ensuring exclusivity and authenticity.
